COVID IN CHINA: Millions Placed Under Lockdown

Highlights

  • China reported a sudden outbreak of 3,400 Covid-19 cases
  • Shenzhen city has been announced to be under lockdown
  • A heavy number of symptomatic cases observed

As of Sunday, China reported around 3,400 Covid-19 cases while most countries across the world are now stepping back to their normal lives. When different countries are witnessing the decrease in the domestic Covid-19 cases including symptomatic ones, China reports the highest covid cases and the worst outbreak in over two years across every province and city making the country’s government impose strict lockdown rules all over the 17. 5 million residents and place them in one of its biggest city.

The Shenzhen city in the last week from Monday to Sunday postponed their all buses, metro services and seal its all communities, villages and ordered non-essential workers to stay at home and have told the adults to get three P.C.R tests to be done. Shanghai just like Shenzhen city is going through a partial lockdown.

On Saturday, there is 1,807 new symptomatic cases recorded which is more than triple in comparison to the last day. According to new norms of lockdown, only one member of the family is allowed to go out to buy food and necessary items every two days. Amidst the surge in covid -19 cases, China imposed lockdown in Changchun city which has 9 million residents, where fresh covid-19 cases were being observed regularly and it had reported 2 cases on Friday. Another 93 cases had been reported from Jilin, a city that surrounds Changchun city that is under partial lockdown as well. Here, 6 rounds of mass testings are being done regularly.

Even in the autonomous region of Hong Kong, the situation seems uncontrollable. Here, the new covid-19 cases are increasing exponentially as on Sunday it reported 27,647 new cases with the death of 87.

The Covid-19 crisis began in 2019 in a Chinese city- Wuhan.   Since then, it had maintained a ‘zero covid’ policy so far while the other countries in the world had faced tremendous loss and distortion from the harmful effect of this Covid-19 virus.

And now it is in China again. If the cases keep increasing at the same rate, it would be challenging for the authorities to control the situation as said by the city chief and the country’s National Health Commission reported 3,100 new cases on Friday and announced that there would be rapid antigen test against this scenario. Viral variant- Omicron has spread like a wildfire and if it’s not taken care of, it won’t be under control.
