How the world is striving for technological revolution and how we will have to strive for our survival
In between 2011 to 2018 more than $50 billion were invested in artificial intelligence-related startups. And in the year 2020 alone $62.4 Billion is invested to bring the technological revolution. In short, technological revolution leads to killing human jobs.
In the recent time in America, a businessman named Andrew Yang ran for President in 2020 on the promise to give every American adult a universal basic income of $1,000 a month, which aggregates at $12,000 a year.
He is not a socialist that just wants to reallocate the wealth. He recognized that the most common jobs in America are being automated away and that people and communities that depend on these industries will struggle. He realized that Artificial Intelligence will transform entire industries and automate both blue-collar and white-collar work.
Due to Automation, there will be a drastic increase in productivity but, they will also target many common jobs — routine jobs that require high school education (warehouse or call centre work), white-collar data processing jobs (analysts), and even some medical and manager-level roles. Any job that is most logical, repetitive, and routine is a great candidate for automation.
McKinsey predicted that one-third of U.S. workers could be automated away by 2030 and that between 400 million and 800 million people globally could lose jobs to automation.
The above image clarifies the chances (%) of losing jobs in the different types of industries due to automation.
This is a global issue. Surprisingly, very few world leaders and educational institutions are taking steps to reduce the impact on the workforce or prepare us for a radically different future of work.
The good news is that we can, as individuals, prepare ourselves for the AI & automation wave. However, we can all strengthen certain natural skills and take actions that make us less replaceable and more valuable. There is one start-up named pesto that is also working towards future career enhancement by providing training and deployment in the tech industry also many disruptive start-ups are there who are working towards it, hereI have mentioned some of them in this article.
The first step is understanding how automation can affect our jobs and career paths. Focus on your creative skills because robotics can’t replace human creativity. Safe and lucrative careers like finance and medical will be also in danger within the near future. So every individual needs to develop certain skills like writing, coding, singing etc. Develop some useful content on social media. Don’t feel shy and talk to people and try to widen your mind and knowledge.
All the mug up jobs will be surely replaced by automation. For instance, a person who had become a doctor had spent 10 years of his life in getting the knowledge and analysing the information related to medicine and after completion of such a long learning process, he can now cure a patient. The same amount of knowledge as that doctor has could be poured into a robotic doctor within 10 minutes and that robot will be as competent as that doctor.
The second advice is to upgrade and update your current skills. The rote-learning process has come to obsolescence. There is no or very less value of physical studies. Nowadays everything can be learnt with the help of technology. You can learn any skills and educate yourself digitally by staying at your home.
The last step or counter against AI is learning EQ. Emotional quotient is the thing which can’t be built up in AI. If we continue the above instance, AI can replace a well-experienced and well-capacitated doctor, but it is next to impossible to replace the nurse. Because the work of a nurse is to give hope to the patient that everything will be all fine. This can’t be done by any machines. Thus, try to develop emotional value with anyone you meet.

Build skills that are hard to replicate :
Research shows that work requiring strong communication, relationship building, trust, empathy, critical thinking, persuasion, and people management are harder to automate. A good speaker, communicator, manager, coach, guide etc is never forgotten. Few customers are not loyal to the products but they are loyal to the salesman.
Try to become a great storyteller and influencer (not on Instagram):
Influencing people, keeping them engaged, and motivating them to action are things that no AI can do. They convey a clear message and get the audience to empathize and relate to the storyteller. Employees that make convincing arguments and articulate solutions using compelling stories are seen as problem solvers and ‘doers.’ They are trusted with bringing in new customers, business, or funding. They are often promoted and given raises, not automated away.
All good presentations contain storytelling elements.
A side activity that makes you happy :
The ultimate protection against job automation is being able to make money in different ways. A small side business doing something you’re passionate about can bring in extra income and increase your happiness and self-worth.
Never stop learning :
Knowledge is wealth. Even a little knowledge can make a difference. Knowing about things outside your job brings opportunities to move to a new project, team, or even a career. Skills that are fun to learn can be valuable as well, and not all skills need to be applied in an office setting. You can also learn almost anything on YouTube. If you want industry knowledge, try attending industry events and conferences.
Final Thoughts :
The way people will be definitely changed by AI and automation. Today’s popular jobs won’t be so hot tomorrow. While most jobs won’t disappear entirely, automation will displace a large number of us. Fortunately, we can prepare ourselves by augmenting natural skills that are hard to automate. Learn, analyse and apply is the simple formula to tackle AI.
