This is a proud moment for Indians that our nation has a wonderful blue water force who goes to any extent, on the move to convey unwavering commitment in protecting our marine borders and they have always been devoted towards serving the nation at the time of calamities.
In the year 1971, on 3rd December, Indian airbases were attacked by Pakistan. Following the occurrence, three missile ships – Nirghat, Veer and Nipat – were directed by the 25th Missile Vessel Squadron to be dispatched at full speed towards Karachi. The Navy’s missile ships carried out successful attacks just before midnight on December 4th, resulting in the sinking of the Pakistani destroyer Khaiber, Minesweeper Muhafiz and MV Venus Challenger, as well as the destruction of the Kiamari oil fields. On December 7th and 8th, Karachi was targeted again by the West. Four missiles were launched by INS Vinash, damaging the MV Gulf Star, MV Harmatton and PN Tanker Dacca.
