Mumbai international airport COVID recovery: 60% jump in June traffic footfall
Passenger traffic at the city’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), which was affected by the pandemic’s second wave in the early months of the year, picked up in June, with passenger volume increased by about 60% over the previous month.
In the period between January and June 2021, CSMIA welcomed 72,61,158 passengers on over 77,797 flights to local and international destinations, according to a statement released by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) on July 8th.
Meanwhile, CSMIA handled a total of 72,61,158 passengers and operated over 77,797 flights across domestic and foreign destinations in the first half of the calendar year 2021 (January-June), according to the officials.
In HICY21, about 64,87,066 domestic passengers and 7,74,092 international passengers made up the overall passenger volume. CSMIA handled 63,992 local flights and 13,895 international flights during this time, according to the report.
According to the press release, the airport in Dubai emerged as the most popular foreign destination, with over 2,13,770 people passing via CSMIA.
Similarly, among internal destinations, Delhi had the most passengers, with over 9,46,890, followed by Goa with 5,42,350 and Bengaluru with 4,32,180, according to the CSMIA.
New flights to domestic destinations such as Darbhanga, Adampur, and Kalaburagi, as well as foreign destinations such as Batam, Armenia, Miami, and Houston, have been added to the airport.
Although passenger travel is continuously rising, most Indian states, as well as overseas nations, need a negative RT-PCR certificate. With this in mind, the CSMIA created approximately 30 testing facilities for international and domestic travelers at Terminal 2. For travelers who need a speedy result, the airport offers an express test that gives a quick and accurate diagnostic in only 13 minutes. In addition, the CSMIA has installed an RT-PCR testing counter to speed up the sample processing. The extra feature was included for convenience and to provide arriving passengers with a quick report.
