Top Branding App Have Been Penalised For Violating Sports Betting Activities In Play Store.
Recently, a clash took place between Google and Paytm, and now the tech giant has sent a notice to food delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy for allegedly violating the guidelines of Google Play Store. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 recently begun, and Zomato and Swiggy added gamification features to their apps. A few weeks ago, Paytm was banned from the Play Store for a few hours for violating Google’s policy on betting on sports.
Meanwhile, Zomato acknowledged that they have received a notice from Google and called it 'unfair'. He further added that “we are a small company and have already realigned our business strategy to compel with Google’s terms and conditions.”
Zomato Premier League was introduced by the food delivery app and said it would replace it with another program during the weekend. While Swiggy hasn’t commented on any development on the app and it has reportedly paused the current feature and is in conversation with Google to resolve this problem.
Several companies have added gamification on their apps to excite their customers, enhance engagement, and boost sales. However, Paytm seemed offended and used the harsh statement to Google's action. Paytm’s Founder & CEO, Vijay Shekhar Sharma said that “Google is giving rewards and discount offers on various services that can be availed via Google Pay App”.
He further added that “providing such a cashback campaign policy of Google pay is in breach of Play store Policies, but kind of different set of rules applies to Google’s apps”. Meanwhile, many Indian startup founders have joined hands to seek the government’s support to create an overarching digital app to challenge the duopoly of both the US tech giants. i.e, Google and Apple play stores.
