Reddit begins rolling out TikTok-like video feeds for iOS users, know how it works
Reddit is a social news website and forum where users vote on content that is socially curated and promoted. Reddit membership is free with top functions.
It has added a new video feed to its mobile app, making it easier to view all of the social network’s content in one spot. This tool expands Reddit’s platform beyond conversations to include short-form video creation, similar to TikTok.
TikTok is steadily increasing, and many other social platforms are becoming inspired by short-form video innovations, not to mention attempting to copy them. Instagram, for example, launched Reels after being inspired by TikTok 15-second videos, and Snapchat launched the spotlight.
If you’ve opened the Reddit app, you’ll see a new button on the right side of the search option, which was launched for iOS users. The experience is intrinsically tied to TikTok. You can navigate through a vertical, perpetual list of videos that feature stuff from Reddit.
When a video is watching, the name of the poster as well as the subreddit from whence the video came will appear. Upvoting and downvoting, as well as commenting, awarding, and sharing, are all options for engagement.
The app will also display videos from users you’ve subscribed to along with various types of videos relevant to your interests. The company purchased Dubsmash, TikTok’s competitor, in December and has announced plans to use its technology to develop new features in the future.
Although the Creative Video app isn’t covered in this feature, Reddit still plans to add more video capabilities and something entirely new to its platform. The platform has not stated whether or not its video player would use algorithms to display content and offer recommendations.
The feature is now being rolled out to iOS users, however, it is unclear when it will be rolled out to other platforms.
