As India recovers from the second wave of Covid-19 and the number of Covid cases declines, many governments have opted to reopen schools for students, either whole or in part. States such as Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh have already begun to open schools in stages.
Uttarakhand
Schools in Uttarakhand that have been closed for a long time owing to the COVID-19 epidemic will resume on August 2 for classes 9 to 12 and on August 16 for classes 6 to 8, authorities announced on 31st July. The state government has issued an order to this effect, stating that it will apply to all boarding, government, and private institutions.
Punjab
According to the news reports, Punjab schools have begun offering physical education classes at the pre-primary level from 2nd August. Notably, the administration had previously permitted schools for classes 10 to 12 to restart on July 26.
School hours will remain the same, running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Before sending their children to school, parents will be required written approval.
Chattisgarh
Government and private schools in Chhattisgarh will reopen with 50% attendance starting from 2nd August, with the condition that the district’s COVID-19 positive rate be 1% for the previous seven days.
All schools have been advised to properly sanitize their buildings and only allow children after thermal scanning and hand sanitization at the entrance. According to the order, students should not be forced to physically attend classes because they would have the option of online classes as well.
It also said that students who come to school to attend their classes must have their parents’ or guardians’ permission.
Himachal Pradesh
From 2nd August, the Himachal Pradesh government has permitted schools for classes 10 to 12 to reopen. The administration has also underlined its instructions about strict respect to COVID-19 rules during school hours.
