01. Taj Mahal:
One of the seven wonders of the world, Taj Mahal, is the jewel of Indian monuments. This monument was built in the memory of Mumtaz Mahal by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It took almost 20 years to complete this wonder with the help of 22,000 artisans from across the globe.
02. Red Fort:
The Red Fort was constructed over ten years from 1638 to 1648. This fort was constructed when Shah Jahan shifted the capital from Agra to Delhi and it was then known as the Quila-e-Mubarak. It is even included in the UNESCO heritage site. It is divided in various sections such as canals, balconies and many more. Every Independence Day, the prime minister of our nation hoists the national flag from this place.
03. Qutub Minar:
Qutub Minar of Delhi is regarded as the site of the first Muslim kingdom in northern India, the Qutub Minar is definitely one of the most historical sites in India. It is one of the finest examples of Indo-Muslim architecture as it is made up of red sand stone. It was named after Qutub-ud-din Aibak who was the first Muslim ruler of North India. The first mosque in India is also located at the foot of the Qutub Minar.
04. Humayun’s Tomb:
This tomb is a beautiful example of Indian and Persian architecture. Humayun’s wife Hamida Banu Begum authorized the construction of this tomb for her husband in the 15th Also, an interesting fact- Humayun’s Tomb was one of the main inspirations for the Taj Mahal.
05. Hawa Mahal:
The Palace of Winds or Hawa Mahal gets its name due to the fact that it looks like a honeycomb, with its 953 intricate windows. Inspired by the unique structure of Khetri Mahal, it was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It is built from red and pink sandstone. It is popularly known as the palace of winds.
06. Khajuraho Temples:
The Khajuraho temples of Madhya Pradesh has always been thought of as the place that portrays the sensuality and eroticism at its best, a lot of sculptures are inspired by the very famous book named Kamasutra. The temple has Nagara style architectural symbolism. This temple was built by the Chandela dynasty in between 885-1000 CE.
07. Konark Temple:
The Konark Temple of Odisha built by the great ruler of the Ganga dynasty- King Narasimha Deva I, with 1200 artisans, the Konark Temple is like magic set in multiple stones. Located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, this temple signifies the small detailing of ancient architecture. The twelve wheels at the base of the temple are sundials that accurately shows the time.
08. Victoria Memorial:
The Victoria Memorial in Kolkata is one of the most historical tourist places in India and was built during the peak of the British era in India. The Viceroy Lord Curzon came up with the idea of this monument but its actual design was laid down by Sir William Emerson. The lush green gardens, a museum filled with British architecture including weapons, paintings, sculptures, artifacts etc. and a royal portrait of the Queen are what you will find in these beautiful monuments.
09. Jallianwala Bagh:
The infamous Jallianwala Bagh comes next- the bloody history of Jallianwala Bagh is known to almost everyone. The Jallianwala massacre took place near the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Covering around 6.5 acres, it is the place where General Dyer ordered a mass shooting on the day of Baisakhi. Thousands of innocents were load down to death in this incident.
10. Golden Temple:
The Golden Temple of Amritsar is one of the most famous Gurudwara in the entire world. It is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib which is one of the important spiritual places in India. There are four entrances to the Gurudwara symbolizing the concept of equality. Each day, over a hundred thousand people partake the Langer here.
