This year’s traditional seasonal sales will start on September 23, one day after the goods and services tax (GST) rate adjustments take effect, according to e-commerce giants Amazon India and Flipkart Friday.
Festive Season Sale 2025: Amazon & Flipkart You Need to Know
An early look at Flipkart’s The Big Billion Day sale and Amazon India’s Great Indian Festival sale reveals deals in a variety of categories, including food, electronics, appliances, television, fashion, and home & furnishings.
Demand is anticipated to increase during the holiday sales as a result of the GST reduction in a number of categories, including clothing and footwear (up to Rs 2,500), handbags, chocolates, namkeens, and equipment like televisions.
Analysts predict that in order to capitalize on the spike in sales, sales will begin once the new GST rates are put into effect.
After the GST rate changes, seasonal internet sales would increase by 30% over 2024, according to an ET study released on Thursday. This will exceed the previous projection of a 27% annual increase to Rs 1.2 lakh crore.
A cursory glance at Amazon’s website reveals “8 PM deals,” “trending deals,” “top deals,” and more across categories, even though the platforms have not posted the holiday sale offers and deals on their websites. Among other brands, it carries Fastrack, Samsung, HP, and Asus. For some categories, the website also offers pricing as low as Rs 49.
Subscriptions push
Amazon India has announced that its sale will be unlocked 24 hours early for the Prime members, while Flipkart said its Plus and Black members will get early access to the sale.
Flipkart’s Black is a premium subscription programme that the Walmart-backed company launched ahead of the festive season. Besides early access to sale, it offers exclusive deals on gadgets, free YouTube premium annual subscription and flight cancellation on Cleartrip for just Re 1. The annual membership is available for Rs 1,499 and there is an early bird offer price of Rs 990 for a month since launch.
Ahead of its mid-year Prime Day sales, Amazon also tweaked its programme offering tiered memberships like Prime Lite (Rs 799 annually) and Prime Shopping Edition (Rs 399 annually) to boost adoption. After tiering, Amazon saw around 70% of new Prime sign-ups during the Prime Day sale from smaller towns.
India’s biggest spending period is the holiday season, which accounts for 30–40% of yearly sales of products like clothing and gadgets. The dates of their holiday sales have not yet been announced by online merchants Myntra, Ajio, Tata Cliq, and Meesho.
Business Connect revealed on September 4 that Flipkart and Amazon India now charge a marketplace cost of Rs 5 for every orders, while Myntra has increased its platform price to Rs 25. According to people with knowledge of the situation, Myntra’s hike is a part of a continuous trial before the holiday rush.
