In comparison to their initial launch costs, Apple has raised the cost of the MacBook and iPad by between 20–42%. Due to the growing cost of memory chips, this is happening all around the world, including in India.
The MacBook Pro built on the M5 series CPU now costs almost 20% more, according to the updated price list on Apple India’s website. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro chip was originally priced at 2,49,900 per unit, but it is now priced at Rs 2,99,900.
The cost of the iPad Air has significantly increased. The 13-inch iPad Air’s base model now costs 1,19,900 instead of Rs 84,900, a 41.22 percent hike.
According to a statement from Apple, “the rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage,” posing an unprecedented challenge to the consumer electronics sector. The price of a component has never gone up this much and so fast. So far, we have protected our customers from these price increases, but we have now reached a point where we must start raising pricing on a variety of goods, including the iPad and Mac hikes that were announced today. The message read, “We are working nonstop to find solutions, and we know this is not welcome news.”
previous in April, Apple had said that while previous inventories had kept the company’s gross margins above Wall Street projections, rising memory costs will begin to catch up by the end of the month. During a conference call with analysts in April, CEO Tim Cook stated, “We expect significantly higher memory costs.”
The industry as a whole has already seen significant price increases for consumer electronics, with several products seeing increases of 40% or more.
Memory manufacturers have been shifting a larger portion of their production to AI data centers, which has reduced supply and increased costs in the consumer electronics market.
