Adani Eyes a $1.5 Billion Loan to Power Its Data Centre Ambitions
AdaniConneX is reportedly in talks with global banks as the group doubles down on digital infrastructure
Adani’s data centre push may be about to get a major cash injection. The group is reportedly seeking to borrow around $1.5 billion to fund expansion. One note on naming: your headline says “adanionline”, but the reports point to AdaniConneX, the group’s data centre venture, so this blog uses that name.
What’s reported
Adani Group is in talks to borrow $1.5 billion to expand its data centres through AdaniConneX, its partnership with EdgeConneX, with lenders such as DBS, First Abu Dhabi Bank and Mitsubishi UFJ reportedly involved. Since the talks are reported rather than announced, the amount, lenders and terms could still change. I haven’t found a company confirmation.
The bigger plan
The loan fits a much larger strategy. Adani plans to invest about $100 billion in digital infrastructure by 2035, with a strong focus on data centres. That is a large step up from where the business started: in 2023, Adani Enterprises said it would spend around $1.5 billion on its fledgling data centre business over three years.
Not its first big borrowing
AdaniConneX has tapped lenders before. In 2024, it secured up to $1.44 billion in sustainability-linked financing, with an initial commitment of $875 million. That took its construction financing pool to $1.65 billion, alongside an earlier $213 million facility from June 2023. The company’s stated aim is a 1 GW data centre platform.
Why the timing makes sense
Demand is rising fast. Government estimates suggest India’s data centre capacity could reach nearly 8 gigawatts by 2030, and Crisil recently projected capacity of about 7.5 GW by March 2030. Global players such as AirTrunk, AWS and Google have also announced large commitments, so Adani is competing for land, power and customers against deep-pocketed rivals.
What to watch next
- Whether the loan is formally announced, and its final size, tenor and lender list.
- How much of the facility is sustainability-linked, as the 2024 financing was.
- Construction progress and tenant wins, since lenders and investors will look for signs that new capacity gets filled.
