Amrit Bharat Express: Transforming Common Man’s Train Travel Experience

Amrit Bharat Express: Transforming Common Man’s Train Travel Experience

Written by Sanjay Kumar

In a revolutionary move aimed at elevating train travel for the common man, the Indian Railways is set to introduce the Amrit Bharat Express on December 30, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating this groundbreaking initiative.

The Amrit Bharat Express, formerly known as Vande Sadharan, is a push-pull train with a maximum speed of 130 kmph, designed to cater specifically to the needs of the migrant labor force. Departing from the traditional Vande Bharat counterparts, the Amrit Bharat Express follows a loco-hauled configuration adorned with eye-catching hues of orange and grey.

This unique train features a WAP5 locomotive with 6,000 HP at each end, utilizing a “push-pull” setup for faster acceleration, resulting in reduced travel time for passengers. In this technology, two engines at both ends work collaboratively – one pulls, while the other provides a pushing force from behind.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Amrit Bharat Express will include both air-conditioned (AC) and non-AC coaches, operating on various routes across the country. The trains will undergo a trial period of 4-5 months to assess necessary improvements, aiming to establish widespread connectivity similar to the Vande Bharat trains connecting various states.

The train consists of 22 coaches, incorporating 8 general second-class coaches for unreserved passengers, 12 second-class 3-tier sleeper coaches, and two guard compartments. Noteworthy features include improved cushioned luggage racks, aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically designed seats and berths, and mobile chargers with suitable holders. The train also boasts amenities such as zero-discharge FRP modular toilets, aerosol-based fire suppression systems, and radium illumination flooring strips.

Manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the Amrit Bharat Express reflects a commitment to providing a more comfortable travel experience. ICF General Manager BG Mallya highlighted the benefits of sealed gangways and enhanced toilet facilities in this new train model.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate two Amrit Bharat Express trains on December 30. The first route will connect Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh to Darbhanga in Bihar, emphasizing the historical and cultural significance of these two places. The second route is anticipated to run from Bengaluru to Malda in South India, enhancing connectivity in the region.

As the debut of the Amrit Bharat Express approaches, these trains are poised to redefine rail travel for the common man, offering a unique blend of efficiency and comfort. With its distinctive features and commitment to enhancing the passenger experience, the Amrit Bharat Express stands as a significant addition to India’s railway infrastructure.
