New ATM Rules from April 1, 2026: QR Withdrawals, Transaction Limits & Charges
Starting April 1, 2026, banks across India are implementing major updates to ATM services. These changes will affect withdrawal limits, transaction fees, and new ways to access cash, aiming to streamline operations and improve customer convenience.
HDFC Bank Updates: UPI ATM Withdrawals Count Toward Free Transactions
HDFC Bank has announced that UPI-based ATM withdrawals will now be included in the monthly free transaction limit. Previously treated separately, these withdrawals will now reduce your overall quota of free ATM transactions.
Charges for Exceeding Free Transactions
- Customers exceeding their free limit will be charged ₹23 per transaction (excluding taxes).
- Currently, HDFC Bank offers:
- 5 free withdrawals per month at HDFC ATMs
- 3 free withdrawals in metro areas and 5 in non-metro areas for other bank ATMs
Punjab National Bank: Changes to Cash Withdrawal Limits
Punjab National Bank has revised daily cash withdrawal limits for certain debit cards:
- Withdrawal limits now range from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 per day, depending on the card type.
- Cards that previously allowed withdrawals up to ₹1 lakh may now have reduced limits.
Jio Payments Bank Introduces QR Code Cash Withdrawals
Jio Payments Bank has launched a QR code-based cash withdrawal system:
- Customers can collect cash from authorised banking correspondents by scanning a UPI QR code.
- Transaction confirmation is done via the UPI app, making withdrawals faster and contactless.
