India sealed their place in the Asia Cup 2025 final with a commanding win over Bangladesh in Dubai on Wednesday. The Suryakumar Yadav-led team extended their unbeaten run in the tournament, registering another convincing victory in the Super Four stage.
Young opener Abhishek Sharma stole the show once again, smashing a blistering 75 off just 37 balls to guide India to a competitive 168/6 in 20 overs. In reply, India’s bowlers dominated as Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy struck twice each, dismissing Bangladesh for 127.
With this result, India became the first team to book a spot in the final, while Sri Lanka’s elimination from the tournament was confirmed. The qualification scenario is now straightforward — the winner of Thursday’s Super Four clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh will secure the second spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
With India defeating Bangladesh, Pakistan’s qualification hopes are firmly in their own hands. The Salman Ali Agha-led side must win their upcoming clash against Bangladesh, which would take their tally to four points from two matches and secure them a spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
The scenario is identical for Bangladesh, who currently sit on two points from as many games. A victory over Pakistan would propel them into the summit clash alongside India. This means the upcoming encounter between Pakistan and Bangladesh is effectively a virtual semifinal, while the India–Sri Lanka match has been reduced to a dead rubber.
Speaking ahead of the must-win game, Bangladesh’s stand-in skipper Zaker Ali shared his thoughts on the high-stakes clash against Pakistan.
“It’s quite surprising, but I’ll take the preparation. Full credit goes to the boys — after the first ten overs, they adjusted brilliantly,” Zaker Ali said at the post-match presentation. “There are a lot of positives we can take from this game. We have another important match tomorrow, and we must remember that a win will take us into the final. Let’s see what combination we go with, but we will definitely give our best.”
