LPG cylinder rate today, March 23: Despite the ongoing war in the Middle East, domestic and commercial LPG cylinder prices in India were steady on Monday, March 23.
The protracted crisis in the Middle East and the effective stoppage of traffic via the vital Strait of Hormuz have had an unofficial impact on India’s cooking gas supply. About 60 percent of India’s home and commercial LPG is imported. Approximately 90% of these imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz to reach India.
The administration has persisted in assuring the public that domestic stockpiles of crude and refined fuel are adequate to meet present demand, despite reports of shortages in some areas of the nation.
Price increase for LPG cylinders in India
The prices of LPG cylinders, both household and commercial, are being monitored due to a complete blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the small number of ships flying the Indian flag that cross the canal.
Cooking gas is now covered by the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 in order to handle an impending shortage. A tiered distribution scheme has been put in place by the government, with household supplies receiving priority and commercial businesses receiving only a fifth of what is needed.
The government increased the cost of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders at the beginning of March. For a 14.2 kilogram cylinder, the domestic LPG pricing was increased by ₹50. For a 19 kg cylinder, the commercial LPG tariff was increased by ₹144.
There has been no revision in prices since then. Therefore, LPG cylinder prices remained steady on Monday, 23 March.

Faster city gas project processing
In the face of a difficult geopolitical situation, the government has increased allocations of commercial LPG to important sectors and expedited the processing of city gas projects in an effort to reduce supply strains and streamline gas distribution.
In an effort to expedite the spread of piped natural gas (PNG), the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) has directed its offices to dispose of City Gas Distribution (CGD) applications within ten days, according to an official statement.
As part of a larger plan to lessen reliance on liquefied petroleum gas, commercial LPG users in large cities and urban regions have also been counseled to switch to PNG.
