Arrests Made in Bengaluru Stampede Case
Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing and Revenue of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was arrested by authorities on Friday in an important development that follows the horrific stampede that killed 11 people during the team’s celebrations of their IPL victory. At Kempegowda International Airport, he had been taken into custody.
The Bengaluru police also grabbed Sunil Mathew, the vice president of business affairs, and Kiran Kumar, the senior event manager for DNA Entertainment Network. DNA was in control of arranging the June 2 event that happened outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Following Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s order to take swift action against people guilty for the tragedy, multiple arrests happened. The Chief Minister declared on Thursday that a one-person judicial committee led by retired Karnataka High Court judge Justice Michael D’Cunha would be established to look into the incident. The commission has been given 30 days to turn in its findings.
A number of powerful police personnel, such as Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, Additional Commissioner (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash, DCP (Central) Shekhar H. Tekkannavar, and other officers from the Cubbon Park Police Station, have been dismissed immediately, according to Siddaramaiah.
“The cabinet has decided to entrust the investigation of the tragedy to a judicial commission. Simultaneously, an FIR has been filed and the inquiry has been handed over to the CID,” the Chief Minister stated during a press briefing. “We have instructed the IGP and DGP to arrest representatives from RCB, DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) involved in organizing the event.”
As part of its efforts to ensure justice and accountability for the victims and their families, the Karnataka government has began a swift action.
