Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared how AI technology is transforming Indian agriculture. He emphasized how small landowners can boost their crop yield using AI-driven solutions. “The reduction in chemicals, better water usage, and increased yield were phenomenal,” he said. He also highlighted the use of geospatial data from drones and satellites to assist farmers in their local languages.

In 2022, Microsoft launched an agri-tech project in Baramati in partnership with the Agricultural Development Trust (ADT). This initiative uses AI tools to promote sustainable farming. Collaborating with Microsoft Research, the project integrates AI, satellite imaging, and advanced technology to drive innovation in agriculture.
Meanwhile, Nadella admitted that one of Microsoft’s biggest mistakes was underestimating the importance of search engines. He acknowledged that Microsoft assumed the web would stay decentralized, failing to predict how search would become the dominant business model—a market Google successfully captured.
Reflecting on the lesson, he said, “We missed what turned out to be the biggest business model on the web because we all assumed the web is all about being distributed.”
