On January 20, Toyota Kirloskar Motor will launch the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, the company’s first battery-electric vehicle for the Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first entirely electric car, serves as the basis for the electric SUV.
The Urban Cruiser EV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur factory in Gujarat, just like the e Vitara. With the exception of a few small design variations, both versions have the same set of features and specifications.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will have dimensions of 4,275–4,285 mm for length, 1,800 mm for width, 1,640 mm for height, and 2,700 mm for wheelbase. It is based on the HEARTECT-e platform, which has a 5.2-meter turning radius and a flat floor layout. High-tensile steel is used in the construction, and a special battery protection framework is included.
The Urban Cruiser EV will come with two lithium-iron-phosphate battery options, rated at 49kWh and 61kWh, just like the e Vitara. According to Maruti Suzuki, the larger 61kWh battery has an ARAI-certified range of 543 kilometers on a single charge.
A permanent magnet synchronous motor provides the power, producing 105.8kW with the 49kWh battery and 128kW with the 61kWh pack. Both variants have a torque output rating of 192.5 Nm. Along with a special Snow mode, the electric SUV will have several drive modes, including Eco, Normal, and Sport. Additionally, one-pedal driving will be possible thanks to regenerative braking.
As demonstrated at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the Urban Cruiser EV receives a somewhat different front-end treatment than the e Vitara. Although both versions have LED headlights, the front bumper has been redesigned and the units’ designs are different. With LED taillamps, the back design is almost unaltered. The electric SUV will have 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Urban Cruiser EV’s interior design is similar to that of the e Vitara. Ambient illumination is combined with black and dark grey finishes for the upholstery and trim. A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are located on the dashboard. A 360-degree surround-view camera, wireless charging, a JBL premium audio system, an electric sunroof, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat are among the key features.
A sliding rear seat arrangement improves back-seat comfort by enabling passengers to change the separation between the front and rear rows. Additionally, the back seats have a reclining feature and a 40:20:40 split-fold arrangement.
Regarding safety, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will come standard with seven airbags. Additionally, it will have tire pressure monitoring, an electronic parking brake, disc brakes on all four wheels, Level 2 ADAS, and e-Call emergency help. Over 50% high-tensile steel and an energy-absorbing battery mounting structure are used in the platform’s construction.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV, and VinFast VF6 are some of the vehicles that the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will compete with. We anticipate that the starting pricing (ex-showroom) will be approximately Rs 17 lakh.
