ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs

Afghanistan defeated the ‘champions’ in the 48th match of ICC T20 World Cup of Super Eights, Group 1 (N) which was held at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent.

Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first. Both the openers of the Afghanistan team played a steady game until the end of powerplay. Gurbaz and Zadran scored 40 runs without any loss before the end of powerplay.

The Australian bowler Marcus Stoinis sent Rahmanullah Gurbaz to pavilion at 60. Pat Cummins took a hat -rick in this match. He took the wicket of Karim Janat, Rashid Khan and Gulbadin Naib. Adam Zampa took two wickets of Zadran and Omarzai.

Afghanistan gave a target of 149 runs to Australia, but they lost the match. Glenn Maxwell scored the highest run among the Australian batsmen. He scored 59 runs in 41 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. His wicket was taken by Gulbadin Naib.

Gulbadin Naib took 4 wickets by giving 20 runs in 4 overs whereas, Naveen-ul-Haq took 3 wickets by giving 20 runs in 4 overs.
