Actor and self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal R Khan (KRK) has extended financial support to comedian-actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently facing a ₹9 crore cheque-bounce case. Rajpal Yadav surrendered on Thursday and has since been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail following court directions.
The legal dispute traces back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav reportedly borrowed funds to produce his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s poor box office performance reportedly led to significant financial losses. Over time, the unpaid amount escalated, eventually resulting in legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Amid the ongoing controversy, KRK took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday to announce his support. He pledged ₹10 lakh to help Yadav and appealed to members of the Bollywood fraternity to come together and raise ₹5 crore collectively.
“I am ready to give ₹10 lakhs for Rajpal Yadav. Let’s all Bollywood people come together to give him ₹5cr! If he does pay back only ₹5cr so he can come out from jail immediately! Let’s all help him,” KRK wrote in his post.
His statement has sparked conversations within the industry about solidarity and financial accountability, as several public figures continue to react to Rajpal Yadav’s legal situation.
Gurmeet Choudhary and Sonu Sood show their support.
There has also been industry-wide support. The actors Gurmeet Choudhary and Sonu Sood said they would be happy to assist. Gurmeet urged producers, directors, and other industry professionals to support Rajpal during his legal battle. In order to provide instant relief, Sonu wrote on X that he would cast Rajpal in one of his movies and urged other producers to pay signing bonuses for future projects.
Tej Pratap Yadav, the estranged son of Lalu Prasad Yadav and a former Bihar Minister, also announced a financial assistance of ₹11 lakh for the actor.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, before surrendering, Yadav said in an official statement, “What should I do? I don’t have any money. I don’t see any other solution.” When asked whether he had sought help from friends in the industry, he reportedly responded, “Yahan hum sab akele hain. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”
On the professional front, Rajpal Yadav was last seen on the big screen in Varun Dhawan’s Baby John. He is slated to appear next in Akshay Kumar’s upcoming films, including Bhoot Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle.
