Arokiaswamy Velumani – The founder of Thyrocare
We always hear from people that “Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you.” We often give an excuse and blame our parents for any failure. You may think that if you were born in a rich family you would be making a billion dollars. Today I am introducing a man who didn’t have enough money to live life happily with siblings and parents. His name is Arokiaswamy Velumani who has founded Thyrocare and become more inspirational for youth.
About Arokiaswamy Velumani
Arokiaswamy Velumani is an entrepreneur and EX-scientist (BARC) who has got a big success in medical Diagnostic, Thyroid testing, and analytical Biochemistry. A. Velumani is the founder, CEO, and MD (Managing director) of a company called Thyrocare. The headquarter of the company is located in Navi Mumbai. He got married with Sumathi Velumani in 1966 and has two children. Unfortunately, her wife passed away in 2016.
Early life A Velumani
A Velumani was born in April 1956 and grew up in a small village area called Dasnaickenpalayam of Coimbatore district in TN. DR. Velumani was a firstborn child in a farmer family. However, His father didn’t have fields to grow crops this is why he would go for another farmer who has their own land, while his mother was working so hard and selling buffaloes milk to feed their family. As we all know that back in time in the government school, there is no desk and bench for the student, students used to sit in ground with plate and Slate. This is exactly how A Velumani had school life in childhood. in his small village area, there was a school called The Town Panchayat Union school, where teachers would teach up to fifth grade. For higher studies, he was staying with his aunt’s place who was not so fond of him. But he had no other option at all, he would focus on studies rather than thinking about others.
A Velumani was good at math and science and had great marks in the PUC examination that made him join an engineering college. But having financial conditions, he got advice from relative to join commerce college. One of his professors helped him to get admission in B.Sc. he said “I had to earn, sustain, study in the college, simultaneously” I know it sounds dramatic, but it happens, when you have the only one option “Do or die”. Velumani had a day when he would sit on the platform and study before going to college. He found part-time a job in college to survive. He was living in a hostel as a source of shelter. Somehow, he completed a graduate degree in chemistry stream. Despite having a graduation degree, he got 100 failed interviews and two jobs. He has worked for Gemini capsules and Central water commission (CWC). His destiny took him in the city of dreams Mumbai.
His career
He said, “My love for reading newspaper helped me in disguise.” He applied job for a scientific assistant at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. For an interview, he arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). Having an alternative language, he was not able to interact with anyone. He stayed at CST for four days until his interview got done. Later, he got the job and was appointed in a laboratory, in that place, he studied the effect and uses of radiation in thyroid disorders and cancer. But this is not enough for him, his curiosity made him experiment with new things. later he obtained master’s degrees and doctorate’s degree in “Thyroid Pathophysiology”. Throughout the day he was chasing his aspirations. One night he decided to become a boss by quitting the job, this stunt of daring helped him to achieve something big. That’s how Thyrocare was found.
Thyrocare
Thyrocare is a chain of diagnostic and preventing care laboratories that were founded by A Velumani in 1996. He set up the first laboratory in Byculla, Mumbai. Starting the age of the company, he was focusing on Thyroid testing. Later he expended the laboratory across the country and his central processing laboratory is situated in Navi Mumbai. The company has launched the franchisee model for obtaining samples to send for testing at headquarter. Currently, A Velumani is CEO & managing director of the company and A Sundararaju is Director and CFO of Thyrocare. According to Wikipedia, the company has net revenue 1, 870.40 Million (In INR) and employees more than 1200.
