We’re now seeing storylines become more branching and dynamic, allowing the storytelling to change and adapt to the user’s choices – and again, all potentially without the need for preset code. Instead, the choices the player makes can create a unique journey.
This is, in effect, the game being able to ‘sense’ when you’re on the edge of your seat during a chase sequence, or conversely help to provide calming elements (i.e. music and space) during a period of exploration. The result is an experience that the players feel is truly alive and responsive.

The fact that large language models, LLMs, can now be used for generating conversational text means that the possibilities for reducing dialogue repetition and ensuring a different experience each time you play are vast.
Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) were the bane of gamers’ lives back in the day when the same programmed responses had to be repeated through an entire game, which could span many hours. Enemies were limited to patrolling a predetermined path or getting stuck on the same corner.
