Core Web Vitals will be hosting Google Interface to Next Paint on Tuesday.
This Tuesday, Google will announce a fix to the Core Web Vital metrics, including Interface to Next Paint (INP) in place of First Input Delay (FID). On March 12th, FID will go away and be replaced by INP.
Please be aware that this has nothing to do with the most recent Google Core update for March 2024; in fact, there is no link at all between core updates and Core Web Vitals.
Google aims to replace First Input Delay (FID) as a Core Web Vitals sign with Interaction to Next Paint (INP) on March 12, 2024. It’s no secret that INP will replace FID; Google informed us that this Tuesday is when it will happen.
What is Next Paint Interaction?
Notice that the Event Timing API is the origin of data for the INP indicated. It rates a web page’s responsiveness. According to Google, an interaction that makes a page slow results in a bad user experience. Every interaction a user has with the page is monitored by INP, which generates a single number that all (or almost all) of the interactions are below.
Google gives the following example of what constitutes good and bad responsiveness:

what is changing?
On March 12, 2024, Google will replace the INP data with the FID metric as part of the Core Web Vitals. Later this year, Google Search Console will include INP in the Core Web Vitals report, allowing you to begin tracking your improved INP scores.
The Google Search Console report will switch from displaying FID metrics to INP metrics in March when FID is replaced.
On March 12, 2024, Google will substitute the INP statistic with the FID metric as part of the Core Web Vitals. Later this year, Google Search Console will integrate INP into the Core Web Vitals report, allowing you to begin tracking your improved INP scores.
The Google Search Console report will switch from giving FID metrics to INP metrics in March when FID is replaced.
Why We Care?
For better or worse, a lot of SEOs have given a lot of work to Core Web Vitals and the FID score. these same SEOs are likely to now begin to focus on INP instead of FID. this is a Google guide explaining how to optimize for INP. Since Google even added the new INP reports to the Search Console in the middle of last year, we had some time to get ready for the change.
In general, I continue to advise against getting caught up in these measures. even Google agrees that they’re just one factor to take into account when trying to improve the user experience on your site.
The confusion stems from the fact that Google published the March 2024 core update together with the launch of the Core Web Vitals improvements.
In other words, you can tell when you browse your website how responsive and quick it is. It’s not always necessary to use an outside tool to inform you of that. Create top-notch websites for your users, but don’t get fixated on the ratings. Check your INP score now to figure out whether you should make any immediate improvements.
