Most Inspiring Business Women Of the Year 2024

To compile a fascinating read for our readers, we agreed on featuring the profile of a businesswoman who is a woman of substance. We stumbled upon the story of Janet Hamilton, who is the wife of the founding head of Durham Combustion Limited and his name is Mark Hamilton., which specializes in Instrumentation on Industrial Boilers, boiler startups, combustion testing, calibrations, and overhauls.

We were truly captivated by Janet Hamilton’s remarkable journey, and we believe our readers will find her story equally inspiring. Our team engaged in a dialogue with Janet and delved into her compelling narrative. In the process, we unpacked a treasure trove of invaluable insights and thought-provoking lessons. This captivating account not only charts Janet’s path to success but also offers profound wisdom that we hope will ignite the entrepreneurial spirit within you.

The original saga

Janet Hamilton and her husband started Durham Controls Ltd. with her in 1994 as a side project. With the help of her husband’s experience working on industrial boilers as an Instrumentation Technician, they opened Durham Combustion Limited in August of 2003, their second business.

Janet took on the positions of bookkeeper and office manager for both companies quite quickly. She decided to study accounting at night school after realizing she needed to improve her abilities. The main reason behind founding these businesses was to lessen her husband’s travel time so he could spend more time with their family at home.

After going through burnout from her caregiving obligations some thirty years later, Janet started a coaching website and the podcast ‘The Anomaly Factor’. The goal of this side project is to assist others in overcoming their obstacles and heal.

Through sharing life lessons from Janet’s viewpoint, highlighting inspirational tales of those who have changed their lives via mental and soul alignment, and helping others recover from their struggles, these passion projects hope to inspire and uplift others. Janet’s motivation stems from her wish to demonstrate that recovery is feasible and that obtaining inner peace and independence is feasible.

Fortifying a deeper connection with her soul’s mission, strengthening her bond with her spouse, and improving her connection with herself, Janet has witnessed notable progress in their enterprises. The near doubling of their earnings may be attributed to enhanced communication, boundary-setting, and a dedication to ongoing education and personal development.

The present engagement

Janet is indeed a multifaceted leader who has held various positions in her venture. Be it the office manager, bookkeeper, health and safety representative, payroll administrator, accounts payable and receivable clerk, purchasing agent, or customer service representative, she has handled every role efficiently. Her journey is a sheer example of the strength of determination, personal development, and the significance of balancing one’s personal and professional life with one’s core values and purpose.

Podcasting became her true passion

Janet Hamilton has now become adept at podcasting. She interviews people who have found their own special oddities and are having a big influence on the world and on their own lives on The Anomaly Factor Podcast. It assists those who are ready to find their actual selves, overcome obstacles, quit self-defeating, heal, develop, connect, and live life to the fullest via The Anomaly Factor coaching website.

The Anomaly Factor, as Janet describes it, encapsulates her lifelong experiences of being different and never being able to ‘fit in’ as per societal norms. However, two decades dedicated to personal development have profoundly shifted her perspective. Today, Janet sees that ‘it factor’ not as a barrier but as a source of strength and a gateway to helping others. Through her offerings of Compassionate Inquiry, Transparent Communication, Relational Life Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and EMDR, Janet knows how to empower individuals to overcome obstacles, forge better relationships, and discover their passion and purpose.

“My working style stems from my ability to stay present, attuned, and authentic in the moment. I absolutely love everyone; we are all equally deserving. It is in giving that I truly receive. I am loving, open, and transparent, and I want others to feel and live their best lives!

After all, we only have this one body and one life to live, so why not make the most of it? It’s all out there for the taking; just decide what you love and go after it; it’s all totally possible! I approach difficult tasks with curiosity and reach out to others who I know have more experience and expertise than I do. I like connecting and collaborating with like-minded individuals for support, advice, etc.,” revealed Janet.

Rejecting victim mentality, empowering oneself

Janet has always looked at her road to self-awareness and empowerment as the most difficult endeavor she has ever encountered. She felt at an early age that there was a deeper purpose to her existence. She didn’t start removing layers of her incredibly complicated personality until she started her personal development journey at 39, motivated to figure out life’s mysteries before turning 40.

Over twenty years later, Janet is still removing the many layers from her life, like peeling a Spanish onion large enough to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records. Her trip revealed that she had been living in an unregulated system with Chronic Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, basically her whole life. Janet is now able to control her inner environment and develop a calm and tranquil inner self owing to her increased awareness and resources.

She has been able to navigate life’s obstacles based on her great power of intuition, a reliable inner guide system. Janet never really understood why she felt like a feral child growing up—until she learned she had experienced Childhood Emotional Neglect. Through these experiences, she has developed a strong sense of resilience that helps her go forward in spite of obstacles.

Janet admits that a large portion of her trip was obscured by ignorance until more recent discoveries provided light. Rejecting the victim mindset, she realizes that her seemingly typical childhood was actually quite different because of widespread emotional neglect.

Despite their best efforts, her parents were unable to provide her with the care she required because of their own upbringing, which included both of them losing fathers when they were young. Upon realizing this, Janet was able to comprehend her experience of being parentified as abnormal, a realization that only came to light in recent years.

What makes her a fearless leader?

For the sake of her family, her coworkers, and society as a whole, Janet is an ardent supporter of mental health. Her conviction is that achieving personal peace is a prerequisite for bringing about global peace. In support of equality and the special talents that each individual has to offer, Janet highlights that everyone has the fundamental right to be loved, heard, and seen.

Her organization, under her direction, has welcomed diversity by employing people of other countries and cultures, respecting their customs, and enhancing the work environment. By surrounding oneself with like-minded people who provide love, support, and encouragement, Janet is able to continue growing on both a personal and professional level. She knows there are no guarantees in life, so she chooses to live in the now. Determined to keep improving herself, Janet enrolls in classes and hones her talents since she thinks that stagnation is the same as deterioration.

She finds nutrition in the beauty of nature around the lake where she lives, and she is learning to strike a balance between production and tranquility. Janet attributes her journey back to herself to her several mentors and coaches, which included Dr. Gabor Mate, Dr. Terry Real, Dr. Scott Lyons, Dr. Diane Poole Heller, Sue Paige at Pathways, Kathleen Cameron at Diamond Academy, and Thomas Hubl.

Love and good intention are the cornerstones of Janet’s values. Her everyday motivations involve peace, resilience, and a love of life and others. Having experienced a turbulent upbringing, Janet discovered later in life the value of establishing boundaries. She understands the cost of growing up with a Narcissistic father and a depressed mother and the necessity of guarding her energies. Janet is now committed to following her passions and leading a balanced, tranquil life that paves the way for other victims of Childhood Emotional Neglect and Narcissistic abuse.

Janet has established limits, worked out, gone swimming, meditated, read, kept a journal, written, enjoyed the hot tub and gardens, and spoke honestly in order to reduce stress. Her connections have become more sincere, tuned in, genuine, and courteous as a result of these habits, and they continue to guide her to greater heights as well.

Tips for budding entrepreneurs by Janet

Janet shared her advice for emerging entrepreneurs based on her own journey. The most important piece of advice for those who aspire to be entrepreneurs is to never give up. Although they are totally achievable and unbounded, you are frequently your own worst enemy.

Understand that there are legitimate causes for feeling stuck, including your beliefs, behaviors, genetics, experiences, and environment. These causes can all be addressed and rewired through a process called neuroplasticity, which involves rebuilding the brain’s connections.

You have to stop letting fear or other people’s ideas control you and learn to be your own greatest friend and champion. After all, it doesn’t matter what other people think of you. Maintain your will and concentration while pursuing your goals, and surround yourself with like-minded people who possess traits you respect and aspire to. Love yourself first, and everything else will fall into place. Self-love is essential.

It’s important to be open to receiving love, gifts, time, consideration, and constructive criticism from others, as these elements are essential for personal growth and can help you elevate into the best version of yourself. Never give up on yourself; remember that everyone is deserving and worth the effort. Embrace your worthiness and keep striving for your goals.

Visualizing the future ahead

When asked to share the future plan with us, Janet responded that she and her husband plan for Durham Combustion Limited to continue thriving after her retirement as the business would be transitioned to her son. In order to maintain the employment of their committed staff and the support of their devoted clientele, they want to assist them not only with fieldwork but also with handling office duties and quotations. They will enlist people who possess the required abilities to guarantee a seamless changeover.

Janet also hopes that “The Anomaly Factor” develops into a flexible project. She intends to continue doing interviews and providing coaching, as they are her favourite hobbies and allow her to travel. She also plans to write a book called “The Anomaly Factor,” which will entail her life story, lessons gained, and the transition from carefree to passionate, purposeful living, as well as launch a magazine soon.

In a nutshell, Janet is committed to continuous growth and adaptation in a constantly evolving world, embracing strength and resiliency. She believes in making conscious choices, seeing rejection as redirection, and replacing fear with love and kindness. She emphasises the importance of responsibility, accountability, empathy, compassion, and understanding in navigating life’s challenges.

A few words of counsel from the ‘wompreneur’

“Change is the only constant in life! How we respond to that change is where our empowerment and power lie. Love is all that matters! How we do one thing is how we do everything! Love is the answer to everything, in my opinion.

When we have self-love, we are able to love everyone and do what we love, always! My favourite prayer is the Serenity Prayer, which goes like this: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
