Dwarka Expressway: Connecting Delhi to Gurugram
On Monday, March 11, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first elevated highway the “Dwarka Expressway” which will connect Dwarka from Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana.
This 29 Km long expressway is also known as The Northern Peripheral Road (NPR). 10.2 Km of the expressway is spread across Delhi- Haryana border to Basai in Haryana and 8.7km is from Basai to Kherki Daula in Haryana, and the rest 10 Km is stretched across Delhi.
How the Project Started?
- Started in 2006 by the Haryana development authority, renamed as the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran, between Kherki Dhaula to Najafgarh as an alternative to NH-48 (which connects Delhi-Chennai).
- In 2017, it was later taken over by NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) as by 2014 only 16.6 km of the highway was constructed. And the project was extended to the Dwarka Expressway in Shiv Vihar near Mahipalpur in Delhi.

- The real estate sector has taken a toll since the announcement of the project in 2006, and has been growing since then. As per the experts, prices in real estate can be seen soaring 40%, after the inauguration of the expressway.
- The expressway will turn out to be a blessing for the manufacturing sector as goods can be cheaply transported from Delhi to Haryana. Earlier it used to take hours to reach Haryan’s Gurugram from Delhi, now the transportation time has reduced to 30 minutes. Which will help manufacturers to cut on transportation costs. Reduced transportation cost will result in improved quality of goods along with reduced prices.
- As per the market expert this is one of the best times to invest in any upcoming real estate projects.
