The journey began in 2008 when it all started with a manufacturing unit. Ecoline Exim specializes in the manufacturing of sustainable promotional and packaging bags. Today, it is a pioneering leader in offering a diverse range of eco-friendly products, including Recycled Cotton Bags, Organic Cotton Bags, Fairtrade Cotton Bags, Jute Bags, and other textile-based items like Aprons. The nationwide operations are supervised by two manufacturing facilities in Kolkata and one in Ahmedabad.

Owing to its strategic location near raw material sources in Kolkata, eastern India, a region renowned for its high jute production—enables a seamless supply chain. Similar benefits are provided for the production of cotton-based bags at the company’s factory in Ahmedabad, a major cottonproducing region.

Gujarat and Kolkata ports, as well as Ahmedabad’s closeness to Western markets, guarantee efficient export processes, lower lead times, and cost-effectiveness. Their clients are from the European Union, USA, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Mexico relying on the company for promotional packaging needs that are ecofriendly too.

“We began our journey in 2002 with the Manufacturing & trading of jute and cotton bags on a small scale under our first company, National Industries. As consumer awareness around environmental sustainability grew and regulations on plastic usage became more stringent, we recognized an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to this shift.

In 2008, we established Ecoline Exim Pvt. Ltd. to introduce sustainable solutions. We focused on manufacturing eco-friendly bags made from cotton and jute, offering consumers reusable alternatives that align with the growing demand for environmentally responsible products,” quoted both luminaries in a unified tone.

Supporting this leadership is Promoter and Managing Director Saurabh Saraogi, who also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calcutta (2004). With over 22 years of industry experience, he specializes in strategic purchase management, excelling in supplier negotiations and optimizing supply chain logistics to ensure timely procurement and cost efficiency. Together, their combined expertise forms the backbone of the company’s growth and operational excellence.

The milestones and accomplishments
In this phenomenal journey, the company has bagged numerous awards testifying to their dedication to this noble cause of raising eco-friendly consciousness. A few of the worthy mentions are as follows:
• In 2015-16, the company reached a turnover of 50 crores.
• In 2016-17, they won the 21st Handicrafts Exports Awards.
• In 2017-18, they set up a new factory unit-1 in Madhayamgram (Kolkata) and also received the Eastern Export Excellence award from FIEO.
• In 2019-20, the establishment set up another factory in Ahmedabad while receiving Authorized Economic Operator- T1 Certification from the Indian Customs Authority, which acknowledges their commitment to securing the international supply chain and adherence to the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) Safe Framework of Standards.
• In 2021-22, Ecoline Exim established Unit-2 Factory in Madhyamgram.
• In 2022-23, the company achieved a turnover of 250 Crores and received ISO 14001:2015 for the Manufacture and Export of Jute and Cotton Bags.
• In 2023-24, Ecoline Exim is accorded the status of Three Star Export House by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade for a period of five years effective from October 01, 2023, to March 31, 2028 in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023.
• The company has earned the right to use the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, signifying that its textiles are rigorously tested for harmful substances.
• In recognition of exceptional export performance in the Eastern region, the company received a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Regional Export Performance from the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) for the fiscal years 2016-2017 and 2018-2019. Additionally, the company was honored with a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding National
Export Performance in textiles-based handicrafts by EPCH for the financial year 2014-2015.

Hon’ble Minister of State MSME, Government of India, at the Time Leap Awards. Moreover, the company has been recognized with the Handicrafts Export Award for the years 2021-22 and 2022- 23 by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), with the award ceremony pending.

The future outlook
As per Sudarshan and Saurabh, the company has ambitious plans to further expand its operations with the establishment of an additional unit in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This new facility will focus on manufacturing cotton bags while also incorporating an additional weaving unit to produce cotton fabric from yarn. The expansion is expected to significantly increase the company’s production capacity.

By introducing an in-house weaving unit, the company aims to achieve backward integration, gaining greater control over its supply chain. This move will enable the company to design and produce customized fabrics for its bag production, offering unique textures, patterns, and flexibility in design.

This vertical integration will reduce reliance on external suppliers, lower material costs, improve profit margins, and streamline the production process, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency. Additionally, Gujarat’s status as the largest cotton-producing state provides a strategic advantage by reducing transportation costs and further enhancing cost-effectiveness.

The company is also committed to sustainable growth, with plans to install a 1250 KWp solar panel system at the Ahmedabad facility to power the new weaving unit. This renewable energy initiative will significantly reduce the company’s dependence on external energy sources, lower power costs, and contribute to its goal of minimizing the carbon footprints.
