In a bold move, Elon Musk, the controversial owner of the beleaguered social media platform X, has demanded the immediate sacking of Disney CEO Bob Iger. This development comes in response to Disney’s recent decision to cease advertising on X, citing concerns over Musk’s controversial endorsements.

On Thursday (December 7), Musk took to his preferred communication channel, social media, to express his dissatisfaction with Iger’s actions. Known for using his influential platform to confront critics, Musk declared, “He should be fired immediately. Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company.”

Disney, a media giant known for strategic acquisitions such as Star Wars, Marvel Studios, and Pixar, has not responded to Musk’s call for Iger’s termination at the time of reporting.

The advertising halt on X by Disney and other major companies occurred last month after Musk endorsed an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory, drawing criticism and prompting a tacit apology from the billionaire. Musk, however, didn’t shy away from delivering a profanity-laced message to companies avoiding advertising on X.

At the New York Times DealBook Summit, Musk directed his criticism at Iger, condemning the CEO for the decision to cease advertising on X, linking it directly to Musk himself. Iger explained that the association with Elon Musk and X was deemed unfavorable for Disney.

The decision to pull advertisements aligns with a broader trend on X since Musk assumed control in late 2022. His decisions have been linked to an increase in hate speech, misinformation, and conspiracy theories on the platform.

According to CNN, Musk himself has played a role in fostering toxicity on X, including promoting the false and dangerous Pizzagate conspiracy theory. The lack of major advertising partners has significantly impacted X’s finances, and Musk acknowledged at the DealBook Summit that the ongoing advertising boycott is likely to lead to the demise of his company.

Despite the financial challenges faced by X, Musk has not taken personal responsibility, deflecting blame onto advertisers and suggesting they will be responsible for the potential downfall of the platform, as reported by CNN. The situation raises questions about the future of X and the repercussions of Musk’s controversial decisions on the platform’s viability.
