PM Surya Ghar (Muft Bijli Yojna): Free Electricity to One Crore Indians!
On February 13, 2024 Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna (free electricity scheme) which is a rooftop solar scheme. The idea of the scheme is to promote solar energy and sustainable development.
PM posted on X, that this project has an initial investment of over 75,000 crore Rupees, this scheme aims to provide free electricity to one crore Indian by providing up to 300 units of free electricity.
In order to further sustainable development and people’s wellbeing, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project, with an investment of over Rs. 75,000 crores, aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month.

How to apply for PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna (free electricity scheme)?
- Register yourself into the portal.https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in As per the directions on the portal.
- Login with the consumer details that you got after registering.
- Apply for the solar rooftop.
- Install the Solar rooftop from any authorised vendor, after getting approved from DISCOM.
- After installation, apply for a net metre and after installation of net metre, you will get the commissioning report from the portal.
- Once you get the report you can apply for a subsidy through the portal itself with your bank and installation details. Subsidy will be received within 30 days into your bank account.
