In sync with NEP 2020, IIM Nagpur committed to holistic education
Nagpur | July 14: A futuristic roadmap has been set by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur by promoting quality and holistic education and emphasizing good governance, social responsibility, and sustainable development of corporate enterprises and state-owned public organizations.
Director of IIM Nagpur, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, informed that the Institute has redesigned its curriculum, in sync with NEP 2020, by inviting inputs from industry experts and academia. The 2022-24 batch is currently being taught the newly curated syllabus, which focuses on holistic education and creating a conscious corporate culture.
While providing details about how IIM Nagpur had incorporated various changes in its attempt to provide holistic education, Dr. Metri said, “The Institute has started a dedicated course in life management for the MBA students. Special lecture sessions are conducted by visiting faculty to teach life management practices to students.”
While elaborating on the principles of NEP 2020, he said, “The policy proposes the revision and revamping of all aspects of the education structure, including its regulation and governance, to create a new system that is aligned with the aspirational goals of 21st-century education, including Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), while building upon India’s traditions and value systems.”
He informed that IIM Nagpur attempts to implement ideas under NEP2020 and make the Institute more inclusive, which is evident from the fact that the number of female students has increased from 23 to 46 in the last three years.
Understanding that NEP2020 promotes a holistic education system, IIM Nagpur recently conducted a ‘Hi-Impact Leadership Program’ for the new batch of MBA students at the Institute. The students were re-oriented not only to the curriculum but were also aligned to their future role as leaders believing in ethical practices, Dr. Metri informed.
He added that the program, specially curated for IIM Nagpur MBA students, focused on enhancing the students’ knowledge, skill sets, and positive attitude to succeed in the business/corporate world. Such programs are an attempt to prepare MBA students to be multi-dimensional and multidisciplinary in this fluid world, Dr. Metri elaborated.
Aiming to develop good human beings capable of rational thought and action, possessing compassion and empathy, courage and resilience, scientific temper, and creative imagination, with sound ethical moorings and values, IIM Nagpur puts its students through rural, urban, and global immersion during various phases of the MBA program. This is bound to help the students make the right decision professionally.
Dr. Metri further informed that IIM Nagpur had initiated the Area of Humanities, Arts, And Social Sciences (HASS) to ensure that pedagogy evolves, making education more experiential, holistic, integrated, inquiry-driven, and discovery-oriented. That is precisely the reason why the IIM Nagpur curriculum includes arts, humanities, culture, and values, he explained.
The Institute has also launched a bespoke, first-of-its-kind course called “Professional Management Practice” (PMP), designed to arm first-year MBA students with professional/leadership attributes essential for a successful career in the corporate world. PMP uses cutting-edge psychometric tools, immersive experiences, action learning projects, and one-to-one mentoring from senior leaders from corporate houses to help students hone skills to be near-perfect ‘Corporate Ready.’
The new education policy insists on re-establishing teachers, at all levels, as the most respected and essential members of society. Attuned to this, the Institute is opening various job opportunities under the Mission Mode Recruitment drive. IIM Nagpur has also started Ph.D. and Ph.D. Executive to meet the dire need of faculty requirement in country’s higher education institutions, particularly in the area of management education. IIM Nagpur is the first institution to be recognized as Quality Improvement Program (QIP) Centre in management education.
IIM Nagpur, from the forthcoming academic year, will launch the ‘Science of Happiness’ course as part of its commitment to making education more well-rounded, practical, and fulfilling to the learner, Metri announced.
The newly developed IIM Nagpur campus is not only hi-tech and hi-touch, but the infrastructure facilities are disabled-friendly per the norms under NEP2020. Dr. Metri added that the Institute had received the GRIHA 4 Star LD Award, which is sufficient evidence for the facilities developed in the new state-of-the-art campus.
“Education must build character, enable learners to be ethical, rational, compassionate, and caring while preparing them for gainful, fulfilling employment,” Dr. Metri concluded.
