ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: India Display Grit in Ahmedabad | Match Highlights “Ticked Nearly Every Box”: Suryakumar Yadav Issues Super 8s Warning After Dominant T20 World Cup Run.
NEW DELHI: India captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed satisfaction with his team’s group-stage performance, saying they have “ticked almost all the boxes” as they head into the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup with confidence and momentum.
India sealed a hard-fought 17-run victory over the Netherlands to register their fourth consecutive win and finish on top of Group A. After choosing to bat first, the Men in Blue posted a competitive 193 for six, thanks largely to Shivam Dube’s explosive 66 off just 31 deliveries. The Netherlands mounted a spirited chase but were restricted to 176 for seven.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar said the decision to bat first was deliberate.
“We wanted to bat first. We managed to put up 190. There was a bit of dew later, which made things slightly challenging for the bowlers, but overall, we’re very happy with how the game went,” he said.
The skipper emphasized that while the results have been positive, the focus remains on continuous improvement.
“You could say we’ve ticked almost all the boxes, but even when you win, there are lessons to take away. We’ve identified a few areas to work on, and we’ll discuss them and keep getting better,” he added.
India’s innings had been under pressure at 69 for three before Dube’s counter-attacking knock shifted the momentum. Suryakumar highlighted the importance of adaptability and responsibility among the batters.
“We could find ourselves in similar situations again. It’s crucial for every batter to understand their role and read the conditions. We have enough firepower in the lineup — anyone can step up and finish strongly.”
He reserved special praise for Dube’s calmness in the middle overs.
“The way he handled the pressure and accelerated when needed was outstanding. Getting close to 190 on that surface was a very good effort.”
The captain also pointed out India’s bowling depth as a significant advantage heading into the knockout phase.
“It’s a good headache to have. I have plenty of options in the middle overs. Depending on what the pitch demands, different bowlers can step up and contribute.”
With consistent contributions from both batters and bowlers, Suryakumar believes India’s Super 8 qualification sends a strong message to the rest of the competition.
“Almost every batter is contributing. Those small partnerships make a big difference and help build competitive totals. I’m very pleased with the way things are shaping up.”
As India move into the Super 8s unbeaten, their campaign so far reflects balance, depth, and growing confidence — a combination that could make them serious contenders for the title.
