Written by Sanjay Kumar

The IPL Auction 2024 witnessed a fierce bidding war as uncapped Indian cricket players stole the spotlight, showcasing their talent and earning hefty paychecks. While Australian pacer Mitchell Starc emerged as the most expensive player in IPL history, several promising Indian talents secured lucrative deals, reaffirming the tournament’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.

Mitchell Starc Creates History with ₹24.75 Crore Deal

In a historic moment, Mitchell Starc shattered records to become the costliest player in IPL history. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired the Australian speedster for a staggering ₹24.75 crore, eclipsing the previous record held by his captain, Pat Cummins, who was bought for ₹20.50 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Chennai Super Kings Secure Sameer Rizvi for ₹8.40 Crore

The auction showcased the emphasis on nurturing local talent, with uncapped Indian players attracting substantial bids. One standout was Sameer Rizvi, a dynamic batter from Uttar Pradesh. Despite his base price of ₹20 lakh, Rizvi, often likened to the right-handed Suresh Raina, was snapped up by Chennai Super Kings for a remarkable ₹8.40 crore. His aggressive top-order style and clean hitting in the domestic season made him a sought-after prospect.

Gujarat Titans Bag Shahrukh Khan for ₹7.40 Crore

Tamil Nadu’s hard-hitting batsman, Shahrukh Khan, lived up to the hype, attracting massive interest before eventually being secured by Gujarat Titans for ₹7.40 crore, surpassing his base price of ₹50 lakh. Known for his aggressive and big-hitting style, Khan is expected to add firepower to the Gujarat Titans’ late-innings arsenal.

Rajasthan Royals Acquire Shubham Dubey for ₹5.80 Crore

Rajasthan Royals made a significant move by securing the services of Shubham Dubey, an opening batsman known for his powerful hitting. Dubey, with a base price of ₹50 lakh, fetched a substantial ₹5.80 crore, reflecting his potential. His impressive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 221 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 190, made him an attractive prospect.

Delhi Capitals Bet Big on Kumar Kushagra for ₹7.20 Crore

Jharkhand’s rising star, Kumar Kushagra, caught the eye of Delhi Capitals, who went all out to secure the wicket-keeper-batsman for ₹7.20 crore, surpassing his base price of ₹20 lakh. The young talent’s recent performances impressed cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, who reportedly promised to secure Kushagra’s services even if the bid went up to ₹10 crore.

The IPL Auction 2024 not only saw astronomical deals for international stars but also highlighted the league’s commitment to nurturing emerging Indian talents. As these uncapped players gear up to make their mark, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the action-packed season ahead.
