Khelo India University Games 2024: Fourth Edition Started
The fourth edition of The Fourth Khelo India began on February 19, 2024. This is the first time for the North-East Indian states ( which includes- Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Tripura) to organise The 2023 Khelo India University Games. That is why it has been named The Khelo India University Games 2023 Ashtalakshmi (here Ashtalakshami denotes the 8 North-Eastern States).
KIUG is a team competition, where medals won by an individual athlete or a team will add to their corresponding Universities. And the University securing the highest number of medals, especially highest gold medals is declared as the winner of the Tournament.
The Punjab University won the first Khelo India University Games organised at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Odisha in 2020. Punjab University was also the winner of last year’s Khelo India University Games.
Khelo India University Games is a vital part of the Khelo India Programme launched in 2018. Which is an Initiative by the government of India to promote sports culture in India through various means such as :- Development of sports infrastructure, identification of talent from the grass-root level, and developing a structured sporting competition.

Ans: This season of KIUG was inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, Sarusajai, Guwahati, Assam on February 19, 2024 by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Bisawa Sarma under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
