The Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Big Wins, Losses, and Other Highlights
by Puja Bhardwaj
The Lok Sabha election was concluded successfully on June 1, 2024. Now, people were early waiting for the results—who would win the elections this time and who would become the PM of India?
Finally, with most of India’s 640 million votes counted after the country’s six-week-long election, the world’s largest democratic exercise has given multiple surprises.
The BJP-led NDA won a total of 292 seats over the opposition alliance party, INDIA bloc, which won 232 seats. This contrasts sharply with the BJP’s remarkable performance in 2019, when it gained 303 seats independently, with the NDA crossing the 350-seat threshold.
In the Lok Sabha 2024 result, the BJP faced several setbacks in its traditional strongholds of UP, Rajasthan, and Haryana. The party has had great success in Odisha, Kerala, and Telangana, presenting a mixed electoral performance in different regions.

The Exit Poll Prediction
According to Poll Pundits, Narendra Modi would become prime minister for the third term. Most of the exit polls predicted a smooth victory with 350+ seats for the NDA, including the three major exit polls: India Today—My Axis India, India TV—CNX, and News24—Today’s Chanakya. But the INDIA Bloc has given the tough competition.
The Second-Largest Election
In 2024, the Lok Sabha election was the second largest after India’s first election in 1951–1952. To form a government, a party needs to have a majority of 272 seats this time.
