In a surprising turn of events, Greg Brockman, the co-founder and president of OpenAI, has announced his resignation just hours after the company fired CEO Sam Altman. This sudden development has sent shockwaves throughout the tech industry, raising questions about the future direction of the influential artificial intelligence research lab.
Brockman expressed his sentiments in a statement posted on X, stating, “I am super proud of what we have all built together since starting in my apartment eight years ago. We have been through tough and great times together, accomplishing so much despite all the reasons it should have been impossible. But based on today’s news, I quit.” Despite the abrupt departure, Brockman conveyed his continued belief in the mission of creating safe artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the benefit of humanity.
Earlier, OpenAI officially announced the dismissal of Sam Altman as CEO, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership abilities. Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati has been appointed as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is determined through a formal search process.
Altman, responding to the news, shared on X, “I loved my time at OpenAI. It was transformative for me personally, and hopefully the world a little bit. Most of all, I loved working with such talented people. Will have more to say about what’s next later.”
The unexpected resignations of both Altman and Brockman come amid a backdrop of increasing deepfake incidents in India. Several Bollywood actors, including Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol, have recently fallen victim to this emerging threat.
OpenAI, known for its ChatGPT chatbot, initiated the generative AI trend last November, rapidly gaining prominence as one of the world’s expanding software applications. With substantial funding from Microsoft, the company’s future leadership and strategic direction are now subjects of intense speculation within the tech community.
