Nowshera, a border tehsil in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, is undergoing significant development under various central government schemes. The area, previously affected by frequent shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), is now seeing progress in infrastructure and housing through the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) initiative.
Development Works and PMAY-G Housing Surveys Underway in Nowshera, Jammu & Kashmir
Key Highlights of the Development Works:
-
Housing Under PMAY-G: Intensive surveys have been conducted for the construction of permanent houses, with nearly 50% of the planned homes already built.
-
Improved Infrastructure: Roads have been constructed, and additional facilities such as water tanks have been provided to residents.
-
Safety Measures: The government has also built underground bunkers to ensure the safety of civilians in case of border disturbances.
-
Financial Support: Under PMAY-G, beneficiaries in plain areas receive ₹1.20 lakh per house, while those in hilly regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, get ₹1.30 lakh.
-
Future Plans: The Union Cabinet has approved the PMAY-G implementation for the period 2024-29, with an aim to build two crore additional rural houses with an investment of ₹3.06 lakh crore.
Residents have expressed optimism about the progress. Poonam Sharma, a local from Nowshera, highlighted the transformation, stating that earlier, due to shelling, development was impossible. However, with the new initiatives, proper roads have been built, and awareness campaigns inform people about government schemes.
These efforts signal a strong push for rural development in conflict-prone border areas, improving the quality of life for the residents of Nowshera.
