On Thursday (January 15), the Supreme Court transferred to the Delhi High Court petitions filed in other High Courts challenging the results of the Common Law Admission Test-2025 (CLAT-2025), which was held in December 2024 for admissions to undergraduate and post-graduate law courses at various National Law Universities.
Supreme Court Refers CLAT 2025 Results Disputes to Delhi High Court
A panel comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, and Justice KV Viswanathan issued the ruling in response to a transfer petition submitted by the Consortium of National Law Universities.
The panel directed that the records from other High Courts be transmitted to the Delhi High Court within seven days.
“CLAT PG and UG disputes should be moved to the DB of Delhi High Court under LPA 1250/2024 1251/2024. “The records must be transferred within 7 days.”
It subsequently issued an omnibus directive to transfer any other outstanding cases in other High Courts to the Delhi High Court:
“We are also inclined to pass an omnibus order that incase any other High Court or in any other matter, the respondent/ Consortium of Universities are entitled to file a copy of this order before the HC for transfer of case to Delhi High Court”
Petitions are now ongoing in the High Courts of Delhi, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana challenging the results of the CLAT-2025 test, which was held in December 2024.
Previously, the Supreme Court signaled a desire to send the cases to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where the original petition was filed.
In December 2024, a single judge of the Delhi High Court concluded that two CLAT-UG 2025 exam answers were incorrect and directed the Consortium to review the petitioners’ results. When the Consortium filed an appeal against the single bench’s ruling, the division bench stated that there appeared to be no mistake in the single bench’s decision.
