Swiggy Partners with Labour Ministry to Boost Gig Economy Jobs

By Business Connect Magazine | April 17, 2025

In a landmark move to empower India’s gig economy, foodtech giant Swiggy India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour & Employment to integrate gig job opportunities onto the National Career Service (NCS) portal. This strategic partnership, formalized on April 15, 2025, in New Delhi, aims to create over 12 lakh job opportunities in the gig and logistics sectors within the next 2-3 years.

The collaboration, signed in the presence of Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, will see Swiggy post verified roles—spanning delivery, logistics, and support—directly onto the NCS portal through real-time API integration. This initiative enhances job visibility for over 1.25 crore active job seekers registered on the NCS, offering flexible, location-based opportunities, especially for youth and women.

Dr. Mandaviya hailed the partnership as a “win-win model,” emphasizing the NCS portal’s role as a one-stop solution for employment, skilling, and hyperlocal job matching. “This collaboration will revolutionize job matching in India, connecting employers with skilled talent instantly,” he stated. Swiggy’s Chief of Corporate Affairs, Dinker Vashisht, echoed this sentiment, noting, “This MoU aligns with our commitment to inclusive growth, empowering job seekers through digital entrepreneurship.”

Operating across 500+ cities with around 4 lakh gig workers, Swiggy aims to scale hiring efforts while promoting structured onboarding and worker welfare schemes. The partnership follows a similar MoU with talent platform Apna in February 2025, reflecting the government’s push to bridge labour market gaps through public-private synergy.

As India’s gig economy grows, this initiative sets a precedent for integrating informal work into formal employment frameworks, fostering dignity and sustainability for gig workers nationwide.
