09. Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal has been Delhi‘s chief minister and the Aam Aadmi Party’s national coordinator since February 15, 2015. He held the position of chief minister for 49 days after initially winning the election in December 2013 before stepping down because other political parties refused to back the approval of anti-corruption laws. He is among the newest Political Leaders of India who have achieved certain success.

Kejriwal founded the India Against Corruption (IAC) group in 2011, joining other activists like Kiran Bedi and Anna Hazare to call for the passage of the Jan-Lokpal bill to combat corruption. In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal’s AAP won 67 of the 70 constituencies, leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party with three seats and the Congress with none. His party has since passed the Jan Lokpal Bill, albeit with some modifications.

Arvind Kejriwal had graduated from IIT Kharagpur and served as a joint commissioner in the Income Tax Division of the Internal Revenue Service before taking office as Delhi’s chief minister.

Since February 22, 2015, Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar. He previously held the position from 2005 to 2014 and briefly in 2000. The head of the Janata Dal (United), he was formerly a member of the Samata Party and a Union Minister.

In 1985, Kumar initially entered politics as a Janata Dal member, rising to the position of MLA. Kumar, a socialist, and George Fernandes created the Samata Party in 1994. His party joined the National Democratic Alliance after he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996 and served as a Union Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s administration. Kumar took over as the organization’s leader when his party, the Janata Dal (United), merged in 2003.

Following a merger with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the NDA gained a majority in the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2005, and Kumar was appointed chief minister. The ruling coalition was easily re-elected in the state elections of 2010. After the BJP announced Narendra Modi as their prime ministerial candidate in June 2013, Kumar left the party and joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Indian National Congress to establish the Mahagathbandhan.
