According to a press announcement dated February 7, Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling canned tuna sold under the Genova, genova tuna recall Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brand labels. The recall was initiated after Tri-Union Seafoods was notified by its supplier that the cans’ “easy open” pull tab lids have a manufacturing defect that could affect the product’s seal and contaminate the tuna with clostridium botulinum (commonly known as botulism), a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

- Genova (7-ounce cans): Costco stores in Florida and Georgia.
- Genova (5-ounce cans): Harris Teeter, Publix, H-E-B, Kroger, Safeway, Walmart, and independent stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Texas.
- Van Camp’s label is used by Walmart and small merchants in Pennsylvania, Florida, and New Jersey.

There have been no reports of illnesses associated with this recall as of yet. However, Tri-Union Seafoods is asking customers not to consume the recalled tuna, even if it does not seem or smell rotten. Instead, return it to the store for a full refund, discard it, or contact Tri-Union Seafoods directly for a retrieval kit and a voucher for a new item.
