Being a woman, the story of Advocate Urvi Rathod’s struggle is markedly different from other success stories.
From childhood her only aim was to fulfill her Grandpa’s wish to become a lawyer. It was a quite clear vision and after graduating in Commerce, immediately she took up Law. After finishing Law, she did solicitor’s articles with one of the most reputed solicitor firm, Shah & Sanghavi.
After marriage, like every woman, she took a break for a couple of years from the legal field, which she says was very near to her heart, when she was blessed with a baby boy. This break gave her inner strength and new avenues to explore. During the period internet & Google became her lifeline. She gave free online consultancy and got noticed by a Spanish law firm, which approached and requested her to assist them in Medico-legal Surrogacy matters.
The journey of entering International field began right there. She then studied International Medico-legal Law of different countries, and started assisting clients from other nations. For probably the first time in India, she handled different Consulates/Embassies, for getting exit visas for the clients. Working day & night took a toll over her health. However, she didn’t let it affect her work & she overcomes this and bounced back with more strength.
After handling more than a hundred foreign clients, every year from nearly 34 countries, for almost 9 years, some Consulates & Embassies considered their documents as the required documents for their own countries. Due to this, specialized Medico-legal work and other civil matters from different countries started coming in and since then, there was no looking back.
Due to her dedication & extreme hard work, Adv. Urvi has received many international awards till date. Timely work and extended support to client are her ways to success. She also did a lot of Pro Bono work and gave free consultancy to hundreds of clients.
Always remembering and following her father’s words, “Hard work & success go hand in hand”, helped her achieve so much. She mentions her parents pride for her, and cherishes her late father’s memories in her heart. Her successful and extraordinary journey is also accredited to her husband Advocate Rajesh Rathod and her son Jeet’s continuous support. Their encouragement to her to follow her passion, legal practice, and standing by her side constantly each and every moment paid off. She is grateful also for the support of her family and her in-laws, without whom, she believes, she could not have come this far.
Even in the 21st century, women empowerment is not accepted by many people, she feels. There is an “it’s okay” attitude toward working women, but confidence & knowledge help bring changes in society. Those days are not too far where women will lead every sector, states Urvi.
According to her, it is a well-accepted fact that women can play multiple roles at the same time, and their wise thoughts and mature decisions often give positive results. Women are handling much work in Bhutan, & it is said that “Happy Women = Happy State.”
Apart from trying to help and uplift women, Urvi provides free legal consultancy to a number of people, takes part in social work & take a lead to guide them legally when Public at large is affected.
