DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Several U.S. warplanes crashed in Kuwait on Monday, according to the country’s defense ministry, with all pilots safely ejecting from their aircraft. The ministry did not specify the cause of the crashes, which occurred during a period of heightened Iranian missile attacks on Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti Defense Ministry reported that the pilots were taken to a hospital for evaluations and that their conditions remained stable. The U.S. military’s Central Command did not provide immediate comments regarding the incidents.
Escalation of Hostilities
Iran and Iranian-backed militias launched missile strikes targeting Israel and Arab states, reportedly hitting the U.S. Embassy compound in Kuwait. This escalation coincided with ongoing airstrikes by Israel and the United States against Iranian positions in Iran, resulting in significant casualties and declarations of defiance from both sides.
Following the Iranian missile attack, which triggered alarms within the embassy compound, no immediate reports of damage or injuries were confirmed. In response to the attacks, top Iranian security official Ali Larijani stated on social media that Iran would not engage in negotiations with the United States.
Regional Impact and Responses
In Iraq, a pro-Iranian militia claimed responsibility for a drone strike aimed at U.S. troops at Baghdad International Airport, occurring shortly after the militia stated it targeted a U.S. base in Irbil. Additionally, Cyprus reported a drone attack on a British military base, signaling the widening scope of the conflict.
Israeli and U.S. forces have reportedly targeted Iranian missile sites and naval assets, claiming to have destroyed several key installations. As the situation escalates, Hezbollah has also engaged by launching missiles from Lebanon into Israel, leading to significant retaliatory strikes by Israeli forces.
Rising Casualties Amid Conflict
In the wake of escalating military actions, Gulf Arab states have indicated a readiness to retaliate against Iran following attacks that have resulted in civilian casualties. U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to respond to the deaths of American troops in Kuwait, predicting further casualties as military operations continue.
Trump emphasized that combat operations will persist until all objectives are met, indicating a commitment to maintaining pressure on Iranian forces. The U.S. military confirmed that B-2 stealth bombers targeted Iran’s missile facilities, asserting the destruction of several Iranian naval assets.
International Reactions and Humanitarian Concerns
As the conflict intensifies, international calls for protecting civilians have increased. The World Health Organization has urged all parties to ensure the safety of civilians and healthcare facilities amid the ongoing violence. Reports indicate that over 200 individuals have died in Iran since the commencement of hostilities.
In Israel, missile strikes have resulted in casualties, including fatalities in Jerusalem and other areas. The WHO has reiterated the need for the protection of medical facilities in the region, emphasizing the humanitarian implications of the conflict.
