Zoom Unveils Unified Context Layer at Zoomtopia to Turn Conversations Into Completed Work
New layer links meetings, documents and business data so AI agents can move from discussion to action
Zoom Communications has introduced a new Unified Context Layer at its annual Zoomtopia customer conference. The layer, along with several new AI-powered products, is designed to help businesses turn rich meeting context into useful deliverables that speed up work outcomes.
What the Unified Context Layer Does
The layer links conversation history with documents and data, and combines near real-time activity across Zoom and connected third-party applications. Configurable controls manage access, and AI agents coordinate to turn that context into actionable insights. The aim is for people and AI agents to see what was discussed, decided, and assigned without someone piecing it together by hand.
The layer draws on conversation history from meetings, phone, chat, and contact center interactions, along with documents and data from connected third-party apps.
CEO’s Vision
Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan said AI models are only as powerful as their understanding of a business. He described the layer as laying the groundwork for a “system of action” built to turn conversations into completed work.
New Features Launched Alongside
The new capabilities include My Notes Workflows, which connects meeting summaries to tools such as Zoom Chat and Salesforce, and ZoomMate Agent Teams, a set of specialized AI agents that is available now. More features are expected later in 2026 and into early 2027, including enriched meeting notes, a refreshed Zoom Chat experience, personalized missed-meeting transcripts, and a Live Meeting AI Agent.
The announcements span workplace productivity, meetings, customer experience, and AI governance.
Customer Experience Focus
For users of Zoom Contact Center, Zoom Virtual Agent, and Zoom Phone, the layer is meant to preserve the thread of a customer journey, whether the last interaction happened five minutes or five months ago. It gives human and AI agents a shared, real-time view of customer history.
Zoom also reported 256% growth in Virtual Agent customers.
Why It Matters
Many companies are racing to give AI agents better business context. By building a shared layer across meetings, chat, phone, and contact center data, Zoom is positioning itself as more than a video meeting platform and is aiming to make its AI useful for completing work, not just summarizing it.
