1. Karur Stampede: Questions Raised Over Vijay’s FIR Status
Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay has not been named in the FIR connected to the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives. A litigant has approached the Madras High Court, alleging the omission is “due to political reasons.”
In a writ petition, P.H. Dinesh (44) of Villivakkam, Chennai, has requested the court to restrain the Home Secretary and the Director General of Police from granting permission for roadshows until clear guidelines or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are formulated for such events. The plea is scheduled for hearing tomorrow.
Meanwhile, VCK leader and Chidambaram MP Thol. Thirumavalavan, speaking to reporters in Tiruchi, questioned why Vijay has not been booked and claimed that the BJP is making efforts to protect the actor-turned-politician.

2. RTE Admissions in Tamil Nadu to Begin After Centre Releases Funds
After a long delay, the Union government has sanctioned approximately ₹700 crore under the Right to Education (RTE) Entitlements component of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), following a Supreme Court notice.
Following the release, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department announced that RTE admissions for the current academic year will commence on October 9. Typically, applications for admissions under the RTE Act are submitted through the State government’s online portal starting mid-April, with the admission process concluding by May.
3. PMK Appoints Tamil Kumaran as Youth Wing President
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss announced the appointment of Tamil Kumaran, son of Pennagaram MLA G.K. Mani, as president of the party’s youth wing.
Addressing a press conference at his Thailapuram residence in Villupuram district, Ramadoss said Kumaran had been appointed last year and that the formal order had been issued. However, Anbumani Ramadoss, who had previously been expelled from the party, reportedly asked Kumaran to resign from the post immediately.
4. CM Stalin Criticises PM Modi Over RSS Centenary Stamp
On M.K. Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for releasing a stamp and commemorative coin marking the RSS centenary.
In a post on X, Stalin said:
“On Gandhi’s birth anniversary, everyone should take a pledge to revive India from a shameful situation, where the person holding the highest office is releasing a stamp and commemorative coin on the centenary of the RSS movement, which gave shape to the dreams of the communalist who assassinated the father of our nation.”
