The rollout of GST 2.0 has come as welcome news for scooter buyers across India. Under the revised tax framework, the GST on two-wheelers up to 350cc has been reduced from 28% to 18%, leading to noticeable price drops in the 125cc scooter segment. This reduction has particularly benefited popular models like the Honda Activa 125 and TVS Jupiter 125. Let’s take a closer look at how the updated pricing stacks up and what each scooter brings to the table after the tax revision.
Under the revised GST 2.0 norms, the Honda Activa 125 has become more affordable, with prices dropping by up to ₹8,259. The refreshed lineup now starts at ₹88,339 for the DLX variant and goes up to ₹91,983 for the top-end H-Smart trim.
Meanwhile, the TVS Jupiter 125 has received a price reduction of up to ₹6,795. Post-revision, its range begins at ₹82,100 for the Drum Alloy variant, followed by ₹87,400 for the Disc model, ₹88,000 for the DT SXC version, and ₹92,500 for the SmartXonnect top variant.
When it comes to performance, the Activa 125 is powered by a 123.92cc, 4-stroke SI engine that delivers 8.31 hp at 6,500 rpm and 10.5 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. In comparison, the Jupiter 125 houses a 124.8cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 8.04 hp at 6,500 rpm (or 8.4 hp with Assist) and 10.5 Nm at 4,500 rpm (or 11.1 Nm with Assist). Both scooters are equipped with CVT automatic transmissions, ensuring a refined and hassle-free ride, especially suited for city commuting.
In terms of size and proportions, the Honda Activa 125 measures 1,850 mm in length, 707 mm in width, and 1,160 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,260 mm. It provides a ground clearance of 162 mm, a seat height of 765 mm, and tips the scales at 107 kg.
The TVS Jupiter 125, on the other hand, is marginally larger overall. It stretches 1,852 mm in length, 691 mm in width, and 1,168 mm in height, featuring a longer wheelbase of 1,275 mm and a ground clearance of 163 mm. The scooter also offers a slightly higher seat at 790 mm and weighs 108 kg, giving it a more planted feel on the road.
Both scooters feature telescopic front suspension, but the Jupiter 125 gains an edge with a more sophisticated twin-tube emulsion rear shock absorber setup. In terms of braking, the Activa 125 comes with a 190 mm front disc and a 130 mm rear drum, whereas the Jupiter 125 sports a larger 220 mm front disc alongside a 130 mm rear drum, offering slightly better stopping power.
Overall, the GST 2.0 revisions have made both scooters more budget-friendly. The Jupiter 125 stands out for its extra features and slightly better value proposition, while the Activa 125 continues to attract buyers with its reliability, proven performance, and strong resale value.
