During an inspection of crowd management and security arrangements at Coimbatore railway junction, Panna Lal highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade station facilities. Key initiatives include the introduction of multilevel car parking to address long-standing parking challenges for passengers.
He also noted the heavy passenger movement during the Diwali and Chhath festivals, with 6.3 lakh travelers passing through the Salem division in the past week alone. To ensure smooth operations, 160 Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel were deployed at Coimbatore railway station, with additional teams stationed at Tirupur, Erode, and Salem junctions. These teams assisted passengers and maintained order throughout the festive period.
Panna Lal emphasized the importance of efficient queue management to prevent any untoward incidents. He confirmed the deployment of sniffer dog squads and bomb detection units for anti-sabotage checks. Additionally, luggage scanners were installed at both entry points of Coimbatore junction to strengthen security measures and ensure passenger safety.
With the ongoing developments, Podanur station’s expansion is set to ease passenger congestion and enhance overall travel experience in Coimbatore, making it a key hub in the region.
