In a major step toward digital empowerment and enhanced data security, the Government of India has unveiled a new Aadhaar app that enables facial recognition-based authentication and digital verification, eliminating the need for physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies.
The app was officially introduced by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw during the third edition of Aadhaar Samvaad, a dialogue series hosted by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Currently in beta testing, the app is set to redefine identity verification practices across the country.
Key Features of the New Aadhaar App:

Users can now verify their identity using facial recognition, adding an extra layer of biometric security to Aadhaar services. -
QR Code-Based Digital Verification
Similar to UPI payments, users can scan QR codes at hotels, airports, shops, or service centers to authenticate themselves digitally. -
No More Aadhaar Photocopies
The app eliminates the need to carry physical Aadhaar cards or submit photocopies at verification points, thereby reducing identity misuse and data leakage. -
User-Controlled Data Sharing
The app enables individuals to share only selected information securely with third parties and with explicit consent, empowering users with greater control over their personal data. -
Real-Time Access and 100% Digital Use
The app promises 100% digital identity access, making it easier for citizens to manage identity proofs across services, even during travel.
Official Statement:
“Now with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information,” said Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a social media post. He also added, “No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shops, or during travel.”
