Ashoka University introduces its new School of Management and Leadership.

Ashoka University on Monday announced the opening of the Havells School of Management and Leadership, the eighth school on its Sonipat campus.

The new school, supported by Anil Rai Gupta, managing director of Havells India, with a contribution of Rs.250 crore, “aims to prepare young leaders to create solutions and inspire change in response to the world’s most pressing economic and social challenges,” according to a statement from the private research university.

It stated that the new school will supplement its present emphasis on humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and computer science, while its management and leadership programs will be completely incorporated into Ashoka’s liberal education approach.

The school aims to offer programs comparable to those of top global institutions like Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, and New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Somak Raychaudhury, vice-chancellor of Ashoka University, stated that the School of Management and Leadership is one of numerous schools and departments specified in the university’s founding statutes, which were established in 2014.

“The Infoedge Center for Entrepreneurship at Ashoka University provides a wide range of management and associated courses, which have grown in popularity among students over time. Approximately 30% of our students have taken at least one course provided by the Center for Entrepreneurship.

As a consequence, we chose to establish an Entrepreneurship and Management Department first, followed by the construction of the school that would house it. So, the concept for this school has been around since the beginning of university. It was always envisioned that it would be part of liberal arts education, and now we are really building the school since we now have founders who can finance this project.
