It is quite crucial to have a significant number of doctors in a country. When a patient needs healthcare services, then these services are available to them. Physicians diagnose and treat their patients with various illness. These medical professionals play a key role in curing the injuries and impairments in physical, mental and emotional aspect of an individual. Doctors supervise and evaluate care and treatment plans given by nurses and other medical team members.

In this blog, we shall discuss about the per capita of doctors especially in those countries where the numbers of doctors are highest.

Countries with the largest number of doctors per capita

Medical field is regarded as a global profession. Though they are present in every country, their population vary. Cuba has the most significant numbers of doctors as per a data collected from 2013 to 2023. 84.3 doctors are available per 1000 people.

Monaco ranks second with 77.6 doctors per thousand head. Therefore, it would not be that much difficult for the patients to access these medical professionals whenever they need them.

Countries with the lowest number of doctors per capita

As per latest research, the lowest number of doctors per capita are based in Africa. There are many factors which contribute to such data. A very common problem in such countries is the lack of government support for the training of medical professionals.

Another factor contribute to it is migration. In search of better salaries and employment opportunities, these medical professionals travel to countries such as United State of America and Canada.

Other medical professionals’ per capita

The other healthcare professionals are equally significant. They consist of nurses, pharmacists, dentists and many more. They collaborate with doctors and other specialist and administer the treatment or medication prescribed by the doctor to the patients.

Nurses take care of the wound and monitor signs such as blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, oxidation level and many more. Midwives are the healthcare professionals who assist and take care of new born babies and mothers during delivery. Finland has the highest number of nurses and midwives. Per 1000 people, Finland has 223.2 nurses and midwives. Second rank goes to Sweden with 215.9 nurses and midwives per 1000 people. Monaco ranks third with 208.3 nurses and midwives per 1000 head.

Dentists play a crucial role in curing patients by keeping them orally well. The healthcare professionals like dentists diagnose, prevent and treat oral health conditions such as cavities, gum diseases and oral cancer.

Dentists perform dental procedures such as teeth extraction, root canals and teeth fillings. The highest number of dentists per capita are the European countries. Polland tops the list with 10.1 dentists per capita. Italy has 8.6 dentists per capita. Germany ranks third with 8.5 dentists per capita.

At last, the health professionals such as pharmacists plays a crucial role. Pharmacists prescribed drugs to patients upon prescription of doctors and make sure that patients get the right dosage of life-saving medicines.

Pharmacists are the experts who have a firm knowledge upon working of medicines and its interaction with the human body. Japan has the highest number of pharmacists per capita with a rating of 20. Spain ranks second with 13.2 pharmacists per capita.
