Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Delhi has been placed on high alert. All leave for city government employees has been cancelled as precautionary measures intensify, following reports of cross-border shelling in several border areas, including Jammu.
High Alert in Delhi: Govt Cancels Employee Leaves Amid India-Pakistan Strain
At India Gate, the iconic war memorial, visitors were asked to disperse as police regulated traffic and made public announcements urging people to vacate the premises.
As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, Delhi has been placed on high alert with extensive security measures rolled out across the city.
District magistrates held meetings with officials to review emergency preparedness, focusing on health services and disaster management systems. “Police will remain vigilant with intensified night patrols. Additional forces will be deployed in all sensitive zones,” a senior police officer stated.
In a late-night directive, the Delhi government’s services department suspended all employee leaves until further notice. Review meetings have been held in districts such as New Delhi and East Delhi to assess quick response strategies and identify potential gaps.
Security has been tightened throughout the national capital. Paramilitary forces have been deployed at critical locations, and special police commissioners are conducting coordination meetings with deputy commissioners across all 15 districts.
The heightened alert follows an attempted cross-border attack by Pakistan’s military targeting multiple locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, and several cities in Punjab and Gujarat. The assault was thwarted, and reports confirm the destruction of a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore.
“All DCPs are closely monitoring law and order. ACPs and SHOs have been briefed, and the police are fully prepared to respond to any situation,” a police source said. Vigilance has been reinforced at high-footfall areas such as malls, metro stations, markets, airports, hotels, and residential zones.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania confirmed a detailed security audit at Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro Station, where 41 CCTV cameras and a team of CISF personnel ensure round-the-clock monitoring. Coordination meetings were held on-site to review procedures.
Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) carried out anti-sabotage inspections across multiple high-risk locations. “BDS teams conducted checks at malls, markets, and hotels to reinforce public safety and boost preparedness against threats,” said DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary.
Vehicular checks at Delhi’s border points have also been intensified, with thorough screening of all incoming traffic to prevent any untoward incidents.
