“When you laugh, you change and when you change the whole world changes around you.” –  Dr. Madan Kataria

In recent years, Urbanization has led to stress, anxiety, insomnia, and depression for individuals of all ages and all parts of society, including entrepreneurs. The perfect natural treatment to deal with the stressful lifestyle is to follow non-pharmacological alternative therapies like humour therapy, music therapy, Yoga therapy, etc. It makes the quality of life higher. Laughter reduces the levels of blood stress hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine, growth hormone, and 3-4-dihydrophenylacetic acid. By increasing the amount of endomorphins, it also improves the immune system. According to recent research published in Social Science & Medicine Journal in July 2019, Laughter therapy has physical, emotional, and social benefits. It is beneficial for patients with life-threatening diseases like diabetes and cancer. World Laughter day is organized on the first Sunday of May every year. This year (2021) it falls on 2nd May. The objective to celebrate the day is to spread happiness and raise awareness among people about Laughter’s healing benefits.

“Gelatology” is the study of laughter. It has become a popular topic in medical research today because of its beneficial effects on health. A deep-rooted belly laugh is one of the world’s greatest sensations. It can bring individuals together and create amazing connections. From a gentle giggle to a side-splitting guffaw, everything from chilly unfamiliarity to a warm family-like atmosphere can shift the temperature of a room.

Although the therapeutical assessment of Laughter therapy was made in the 1970s the credit of developing goes to Dr. Madan Kataria who established Laughter Yoga clubs in Mumbai in the year 1995.  Today there are around 5000 Laughter clubs worldwide. Some of the benefits of Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga) are:

REDUCES BLOOD PRESSURE

The risk of stroke and heart attack can be decreased by people who decrease their blood pressure, including those who start at normal levels. So watch Laughter show on Television and enjoy the Laughter medicine.

HELPS IN WEIGHT LOSS

Weight gain is the common side effect of chronic stress. Laughter therapy reduces the stress hormones that cause weight gain and also burns calories.

The ABS Works

One of the advantages of laughter is that toning your abs will benefit you. The muscles in your stomach extend and contract as you laugh, similar to when you exercise your abdominals purposely. The muscles that you don’t need to laugh, meanwhile, are getting a chance to relax. Add laughter to your routine and make it more enjoyable to have a toned tummy.

CARDIAC HEALTH IMPROVES

Laughter, particularly for those who are unable to do other physical activity due to injury or disease, is a great cardio workout. It pumps the heart and burns a comparable amount of calories per hour as a slow to the moderate speed of walking. So, laugh at your good side.

BOOSTS T-CELLS

T-cells are specialized cells of the immune system only awaiting activation in the body. You trigger T-cells that automatically begin to help you fend off sickness when you laugh. Next time you sense a cold coming on, add chuckling to your illness prevention strategy.

ENDORPHINS ACTIVATES THE RELEASE

The body’s main painkillers are endorphins. You can release endorphins by laughing, which can help relieve chronic pain and make you feel good all over.

PRODUCES A WELL-BEING GENERAL SENSE

Your overall sense of well-being can be enhanced by laughter. Doctors also found that people with a positive outlook on life appear to be better at battling diseases than individuals who tend to be more pessimistic. Laugh, smile, and live longer!

REDUCES STRESS HORMONE LEVELS

You are simultaneously reducing the anxiety and stress that affect your body by reducing the level of stress hormones. Also, the reduction of stress hormones may result in a higher output of the immune system. If your colleague cracks a funny joke it may relieve some of the stress of the day and help you gain laughter’s health benefits.

ACTS AS A NATURAL ANTIDEPRESSANT

Laughter therapy can reduce depression and helps in general mood improvement as well as improved sleep.
